Title

Aging in an era of fake news

Summary

This paper argues that cognitive decline may be a contributing factor, but it is not the sole cause of misinformation. Instead, social changes, increased trust, and unfamiliarity with social media also play significant roles. Older adults, particularly those who actively spread false information during the 2016 U.S. election, are at a greater risk. To reduce older adults’ vulnerability to fake news, it is necessary to implement effective interventions that target these social and digital literacy challenges.
