Social determinants of content selection in the age of (mis)information

Summary

This research investigates the dissemination of conspiracy theories on the internet, like the notion that contributes to global warming or vaccines that cause autism. By analyzing data from 1.2 million Italian Facebook users, the study reveals that both scientific and conspiracist news are consumed at an equal rate. Additionally, the research assesses the impact of satirical and debunking content on users who are divided by conspiracy theories.
