Title

Neutralizing misinformation through inoculation: Exposing misleading argumentation techniques reduces their influence

Summary

This study investigates the impact of climate change misinformation on public perception and policy support, it finds that false-balance media coverage and misleading information polarize opinions, particularly among free-market supporters. Pre-emptive inoculation messages, which explain flawed argumentation techniques or emphasize scientific consensus, effectively neutralize these adverse effects. The study suggests climate communication should include such inoculation strategies to counteract misinformation.
