Promoting critical digital literacy in the leisure-time center: Views and practices among Swedish leisure-time teachers

Summary

This article examines how Swedish leisure-time teachers work to develop critical digital literacy among students, with a particular focus on understanding Internet advertising. Through 20 in-depth interviews, the study explores the various approaches taken, ranging from not addressing critical digital literacy to engaging students in discussions and activities that promote critical thinking about digital media and advertising. The findings highlight the diversity in teaching practices and the implications for policy, teacher education, and future research on critical digital literacy.
