Title

Social media and cookies: challenges for online privacy

Summary

This paper examines how Web 2.0 and social media have introduced “mass self-communication,” which empowers users but also poses privacy risks. It highlights the paradox of social media’s potential benefits and downsides, particularly in terms of privacy and dataveillance. Through an analysis of cookies, the paper demonstrates how these tools can create new vulnerabilities for user privacy by obscuring the context of personal data exposure.
