Title

Updating accounts following a correction of misinformation

Summary

This research explores how corrected misinformation affects anaphoric inferences during reading. Participants read stories with either corrected misinformation or no misinformation, then judged the appropriateness of anaphoric referents. Initially, corrections of misinformation showed reduced activation compared to no misinformation, but over time, misinformation remained more easily recognized. Overall, appropriate referents were more activated than inappropriate ones, suggesting that corrected misinformation still influences real-time reading comprehension.
