Title

Who wants to reduce greenhouse gas emissions?

Summary

This paper explores the reasons behind some people’s support for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, focusing on cognitive, economic, and partisan theories. The study, conducted through a survey in central Pennsylvania, finds that individuals who accurately understand climate change causes and anticipate negative consequences are more likely to support mitigation efforts. The results indicate that cognitive factors outweigh economic or partisan motivations, with the belief that environmental policies won’t harm jobs or personal freedoms being a significant predictor of support.
