বাংলাদেশ কৃষি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের (বাকৃবি) বিজ্ঞানীদের গবেষণায় বেগুনে ক্যান্সার সৃষ্টিকারী হেভি মেটাল উপাদান লেড, ক্যাডমিয়াম ও নিকেলের উপস্থিতি ধরা পড়েছে। বিজ্ঞানীরা বলছেন, ক্রমাগত বেগুন খাওয়ার মাধ্যমে এসব উপাদান গ্রহণ করলে যে কেউ ক্যান্সারে আক্রান্ত হতে পারেন। তবে রান্নার পর বেগুনে ক্যান্সারের এসব উপাদান থাকে কি না সেটি গবেষণায় উল্লেখ করা হয়নি। জামালপুরের ইসলামপুর ও মেলান্দহ উপজেলার ২০টি স্পটের কৃষকদের থেকে সরাসরি সংগ্রহ করা বেগুন ও মাটির স্যাম্পল পরীক্ষায় এসব হেভি মেটালের উপাদান মিলেছে বলে জানিয়েছেন গবেষকরা। বাংলা ট্রিবিউন।
