This chapter advocates for diversifying the digital tools and platforms used in agricultural extension and rural development to reduce dependence on corporate social media, using the concept of path-dependency. It draws on literature findings to propose a strategy that includes non-corporate social media alternatives, emphasizing the need for research alliances, infrastructure, and digital skills training to overcome challenges. The chapter highlights the unintended consequences of corporate social media and outlines a diversification strategy that supports participatory digital self-determination in agricultural communities of practice.
