Title

Combating Misinformation in Bangladesh: Roles and Responsibilities as Perceived by Journalists, Fact-checkers, and Users

Summary

This paper examines misinformation on Facebook in Bangladesh, focusing on challenges in verifying online information in the Global South. By conducting interviews with journalists and fact-checkers, as well as conducting public surveys, it revealed that the general public desires news verification. However, journalists currently lack the necessary resources and capacity to properly carry out fact-checking. The study examines these problems in the context of broader concerns related to computer-supported cooperative work (CSCW) and proposes solutions, such as increased collaboration, improved technology design, and infrastructure development.
