Title

Nutrition misinformation: How to identify fraud and misleading claims

Summary

This paper addresses the challenges consumers face in navigating nutrition information and identifying health fraud. With the increasing awareness of the link between diet and health, many consumers are making personal health decisions based on various information sources, which can lead to exposure to nutrition misinformation and health fraud. Health fraud involves false health claims, ranging from unsubstantiated “miracle cures” to misleading supplement promotions. Consumers may struggle to distinguish reputable, science-based nutrition information from misleading claims, and should watch for red flags like promises of quick fixes or oversimplified conclusions from complex studies.
