Title

Rumor cascades

Summary

Online social networks facilitate the widespread propagation of rumors, as information shared by friends is often trusted and quickly disseminated to many individuals simultaneously. A study tracking rumors on Facebook, using data from Snopes.com, reveals that rumor cascades penetrate deeper into social networks than other channels. Additionally, comments linking to Snopes articles can increase the likelihood of rumor deletions, although large cascades often continue to spread despite accumulating many such corrective comments.
