The effect of social network sites usage in climate change awareness in Latin America

Summary

This study employs data from the 2017 survey to explore the impact of social network site usage on climate change awareness across 18 Latin American countries. The research identifies the socioeconomic factors that influence climate awareness, examines the influence of prominent social media platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, Snapchat, and Tumblr, and evaluates the consequences of using multiple platforms. The results indicate that YouTube has the most significant positive effect on climate change awareness, followed by Instagram, Twitter, and WhatsApp, with multi-platform use also contributing to increased awareness. The study provides insights into the role of social media in fostering environmental awareness and its implications.
